Walking Distance
Hospedaje pensiĂłn CĂłrdoba is on a tiny side street, Calle Postigo de Zárate, running just off the main arteries of central Granada. This neighborhood is where the city’s heart beats most strongly, squeezed between the modern commercial center and the old Islamic quarters. Just around one corner is Calle Elvira-the gateway to AlbaicĂn(the old Arab quarter)and a famous street for its tea houses(teterĂas), shawarma shops, and tapas bars. Here you do not need public transport to get anywhere main sights;the Cathedral is your next-door neighbor and at the foot of Alhambra hill lies fifteen minutes walk away.
The general immediate area is lively and bright. By day the neighboring streets are crowded with tourists and street performers and local residents buying something in the AlcaicerĂa (old silk market). Overwhelming the senses, there shall be smells of incense coming out from souvenir shops, roasted chestnuts in winter, and frying fish-from-bars. Later at night this same area becomes a dining location-hub. A short walk away is Plaza Bib-Rambla filled with terraces where people sit eating churros con chocolate. Because it is the center, even late into the night does not become silent; narrow streets seem to double up on noise-from mopedsand late revellers but that’s a trade-off for such central convenience.
This area is generally safe due to the crowds and police presence near the Cathedral.Incidentally, this becomes true further up the hill towards AlbaicĂn or Sacromonte where caution has to be exercised at night as streets become more labyrinthine and darker. It is on this “flat” part of city that PensiĂłn’s location feels safer ,more navigable after dark than upper winding alleys .And it works perfectly as strategic launchpad:you can clamber up those steep hills during daytime, then retreat into safety plus flatness(center)for dinner.
